To say we had an unexpected/eventful weekend is an understatement. Chase got what we thought was a pimple on his bottom lip on Thursday. (Picture with the spiked hair) Friday morning it had a crusted scab on so we decided it must be a cold sore and started putting Abreva on it. By, Saturday morning it was looking swollen and had grown. I went online to schedule an appointment with urgent care and they had an opening at 4 so we took it. When we got to Urgent care there was another mom who walked in after us with a child who was wheezing, the nurses apologized for our extra wait and took that kid back first. I made the comment “no big deal we are here for a bump we can wait“. Couple minutes later and we are in the back. The dr walked in talked to us for a few and then made an unexpected statement, she was sending us straight to the children’s hospital (Wolfson’s). We left in disbelief, upon arrival to the ER we were met with two nurses and a tech waiting to take us straight back. To shorten our story here; Chase had a pimple/perhaps cold sore that got infected (most likely from him picking at it) and it when the infection found the nice warm moist environment his bottom lip provided it took over. The Drs at the ER sedated Chase, then surgically drained the site, placed packing into the area and sent him home on antibiotics every 8 hours. Today, we scheduled a pediatrician appointment to have the packing removed and the pediatrician sent us to a wound care Dr to have it removed and followed. Chase has been incredibly strong, brave, and patient over all of this. We had amazing medical staff at all of the locations we’ve been to over the last few days that helped our baby in a situation that could have been a lot worse. 🤦🏻‍♀️
